We Lead a Busy Life
It has been two weeks since I last wrote. Much has happened in the mean time. We are getting busier and busier.
Sister Black is teaching piano lessons. They are both group and individual lessons. At the first group lesson there were 12 people. As is usual, some of them were not really interested, but wanted to support the class. We now have 5 regular students and 2 sometimes students.
These lessons are intended to be 12 weeks in duration with one lesson per week. However, for those who are most intent on learning Sister Black is teaching individually. We feel an urgent need to get this done. Some of these students will continue to learn even after the 12 week course is finished and Sister Black will continue to help them. The urgency comes because when we leave in December there will be nobody to play the piano/organ unless some of these students will step up. We prefer that the local members be ready to step into those shoes instead of full-time missionaries. When they are finished with the 12 weeks, they are ready to play the simplified hymns and with practice can move into the regular hymnbook.
We are continuing to work on a choir. Mostly it is a missionary choir, but we have hopes for more member participation. I fear the choir will be a casualty when we leave. There just isn't much interest. We hoped they would feel the spirit that we feel when a choir participates in a ward meeting.
Now for some personal news. On Friday, the third of January, I broke two teeth that were holding a bridge together. We went to a dentist on Monday, the 6th, but he didn't have time to do any work on those two teeth other than make a plan. If you have never had broken teeth in your mouth, even if they don't hurt, you have never experienced the stench of decaying food that has been caught in the remains of those teeth. Whew! It even grosses ME out!
One of the teeth is salvageable and I had a root canal done on it today. Next week we will prepare it for a crown. Also next week I will go visit with an Oral Surgeon to lay a plan to get the roots removed from the other tooth and visit about putting an implant or two in my mouth. I'm guessing it will not be a cheap adventure.
Our Spanish language Institute classes are now being held in our building instead of the Stake
Center because all of the students who attend are from these two Spanish Wards who meet in our building. We had 32 students attend this past Thursday, which is 3 times what we had in the Stake Center last semester. I am still the substitute teacher. I love doing it. I still am not as comfortable in Spanish as I wish I could be, though.. I work to improve every day.
That's enough for today.
