The Stages of Life

There comes a time in each of our lives when our bodies are worn out, our minds are weak, our children are grandparents and our spirits long to go home.

For some of us we long to see and again associate with our spouse who has already passed away from this life and perhaps with children who have passed before us.

When this time comes the children worry, the grandchildren wonder, and our friends morn our impending passing.  As our friends and associates pass away we wonder why we are still here.

Such is the case with my favorite Mother-in-Law, who is in the final stage of her life.  We don't expect that she will live very many days longer.  I have known her for more than 50 years.  She was just 35 when I first met her and her oldest child.  These days are stressful for her children as they struggle to know just how to treat their mother.  She doesn't respond much now, but she sees spirits from the other side and can describe them.

At such times we marvel about the perfectness of Heavenly Father's great Plan of Happiness.  Maxine has raised 8 children, and as a result has many grandchildren.  These children and grandchildren are part of an eternal family with generations upon generations of progenitors, many of which have not been privileged to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ, or of the atonement. But she has taught her children and has encouraged her children to teach her grandchildren.

We will morn her passing when the time comes, but we will be jubilant with the understanding that she is not lost and that her life will continue on the other side of the veil.  She will again enjoy the love and association with her sweetheart that she enjoyed before he passed away nearly 25 years ago.

I know that God lives.  I know that Jesus Christ, the son of the Most High God, also lives and is concerned with the affairs of the people of this world.  I know that He atoned for the all of the sins and diseases that have ever vexed the peoples of this world or those that are vexing the people currently or those that will vex the peoples of this world in the future.  His atonement is everlasting and all encompassing. It is up to us to accept and activate our participation in His atonement.

More in days to come.
