We Enjoy....
Some of the perks of being Senior Missionaries are that we get some little pleasures, such as:
This past week we hosted 3 different companionships of missionaries in our home on different days to enjoy dinner. For one we made my own version of Enchildadas For another we made home made Macaroni and Cheese (my way) at their request. For the third we made pork chops, baked potatoes, Sweet Potatoes and fixin's. I enjoy cooking for these young missionaries and they seem to enjoy eating what I make. (I don't take photos of the food that I cook so don't look for any.)
Unfortunately we don't get to host young missionaries very often.
Last night we were privileged to go to the temple with a young man from our ward who received his mission call. He will report to the Lima, Peru Missionary Training Center in November. I encouraged him to contact Bishop Fernandez about working in the Houston Temple until he needs to leave for Peru. He said he would consider it. I hope he will do so. Missionaries that spend their wait time working as Ordinance Workers in a temple are much better prepared to teach the Gospel to others. They know better where the goal really is and are more effective in getting people prepared to enter the temple to make sacred covenants with our Heavenly Father that cannot be made elsewhere.
We found out later that his mother also received her endowment last night. We thought she was previously endowed. So it was a double blessing day!
Tomorrow, 20 of our Senior Missionaries will go to a Major League Baseball game, Athletics @ Astros. Elder Bednar will toss the first pitch. I don't know if the other Houston Missions will attend, but we will enjoy it. It has been about 35 years since we've attended a live professional baseball game. The last one that I attended was at Dodger Stadium. The Santa Fe Railway Company had season box seats and occasionally I could commandeer 2 of them. I believe the last one was in 1984 when I worked as Administrative Trainmaster in the Los Angeles Terminal Division Offices in Vernon, California.
Elder Bednar is speaking to Young Marrieds and recently marrieds (of any age) tonight, and will host a fireside with the YM/YW of the Houston area in Minute Made Stadium before the game tomorrow. It will be a busy weekend for him. I haven't been told if he is here presiding at a Stake conference this weekend.
While not intending any political message at all, please pray for our local, state, and national political leaders to assist them in continuing to follow the constitution which we know was conceived by imperfect men inspired of a perfect God.
