Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Somehow, I have lost a week.  I'm not sure how, but I didn't write anything last Monday, so I'll write a little today.

There hasn't been a whole lot going on.  A week ago we were both a bit under the weather.  I'm not sure of the reason, and we did a few things, but mostly stayed close to home.  We're feeling better this week and we've done a lot more of our chores this week, but I don't think it is over yet.

About 3 months ago I noticed a little sore on my belly.  It itched like crazy so I thought I was having some kind of an allergic reaction to something.  I didn't and still don't know what might have caused it.  I ignored it.  It hasn't gone away.  Then about 6 weeks ago I noticed a sore in my right armpit.  It itched like crazy (and still does, for that matter).  I don't know what it is, but yesterday I noticed that it has hatched young-uns next to it.  My princess bride thinks it is just a rash, but I dunno.  I guess I'll schedule a visit with a doctor and see what his opinion might be.

It's probably just leprosy or something.  Nothing to worry about, right?

Last Sunday we went to a meeting hosted by the Houston Texas West Stake which was designed for Spanish speaking members of the church who live in the greater Houston area.  All of the stakes in the Houston, Houston South and Houston East missions were invited to participate through internet transmission.  Elder Paul B. Pieper presided over the special meeting and used the assistance of several Stake Presidents along with several new members of the church to make his presentation. It turns our that the USA is second only to Mexico with individuals with Spanish as primary language.  We have more Spanish speaking people in the USA than Spain, or any other Spanish speaking nation other than Mexico.  Isn't that interesting?  The Church will increase its efforts in Spanish language proselyting in the USA.

One of the families with whom we are working is building a house.  It will be a wonderful home when it is finished.  We decided to see if we could be of any assistance because his excuse for not coming to church is that he has no time.  The only time he has to work on his house is the weekend so he needs to take full advantage of that time.  We thought, perhaps, that we could trade 2 hours of our time for the two hours church time on Sundays.  It was a wonderful idea.  We even took a plate of cookies for the construction folks that were working on the house yesterday.  We went there yesterday and they were putting in electrical wiring.  Unfortunately, even though I understand wiring, I am not capable of doing that kind of work these days.  I have too much arthritis in my hands and can't pull the wiring through studs.  I guess I'm past doing much manual labor.  It makes me sad to know I can't help out.

However, that family was at church today, so I consider it a success.

Today we witnessed a marriage and then baptism of a not-quite-young couple.  They have several children who are too young for baptism as yet.  The Bishop married them and then they were baptized.  I was invited by the Stake President to bear my testimony at the end of the baptism program.  I have no idea why.  The baptism wasn't in our ward, but is in the sister ward that we will soon begin to support along with our own ward.  We have been given permission to work in that ward when our time permits.
