Update 10/23/18

Well, surprises abound!

76 days until we report to the Provo MTC..

On Friday, the lovely and talented Sister Black received an Email message from the MTC wanting to schedule her for some language training in Spanish.  We didn't know that we were called to serve as Spanish speaking missionaries.  There was nothing in our letter that indicated we would speak anything other than the language we grew up learning, which we call "English".

So.... I called the mission office of T.H.E. mission and spoke with a nice young lady who told me that the information they received is that we would serve in Spanish assignments.  She recommended that I contact the Missionary Department, which I did.  I spoke with three nice young ladies (one at a time) who passed me around until I could speak to someone who had the information I was looking for.  Their information also was "English" speakers to work in Spanish assignments.

Well...  I really don't mind change. Surprises, though, are a little bit different.  It would be a little nicer if we had been let in on the secret so that we could purchase our materials in Spanish instead of English.  We still have plenty of time to alter our training schedule and we will do so.

This evening President Hewlett, president of T.H.E mission called us and we chatted for nearly 20 minutes.  He wanted to know about our language situation because the Missionary Department called him to see what he knew. We assured him that we would serve in whatever capacity and language the Lord through him wants us to speak, but we don't have a clue about Creole.  It was a very good conversation.  He told us he would call the Missionary Department in the morning and then get back to us as to which we we should prepare.

It has been an interesting day for us.  Our preparations are continuing.
