The Mission Call

The lovely and talented Sister Black and I received notice that our Mission Call was available at about 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.  The notice was sent to us as a text and also as an Email message and included instructions as to how to access it on both computer and on cell phone.  As soon as we knew our call was available we both became very emotional.  It is an awesome event to receive a letter from the prophet of the Lord calling one to missionary service.  However, we hastened to open our letter and read even while the tears were flowing.

We have been called as missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are assigned to labor in the Texas Houston East Mission.  Our primary assignment is to labor as member and leader support missionaries.  We will expect to serve for a period of 23 months.

We are to report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Monday, January 7, 2019

We will be driving our own car.

As we read our call and reacted to it, we realized that we were in the midst of  responding to President Russell M. Nelson's admonition to do a 10 day fast from social media so we were not able to post our news on Facebook or do a "Facebook Live" event as we had planned.  As a result we texted each of our family and close friends.

We have already been preparing for this.  We have done much of our needed clothing shopping and we already have much of our other requirements.  We will need to do some supplementary shopping to get things we don't generally use in Southern Utah where it rains rarely and the climate is generally pretty mild.
